The students have been learning about Natural Disasters as apart of our Geography Unit this term. Today we had Brad from TIN ROOF GLOBAL come in and talk to the grade 7's about local water issues while exploring some hands on science experiments. Students learned about solutions, mixed substances, solvents and water processes. Great day of learning! Www.tinroofglobal.com Like it or not, agree or disagree; grammar matters! As a teacher, I feel strongly in teaching grammatical literacy. I try to incorporate a priority of checking over and proofreading all work submitted by my students. I am noticing a decline in diligence over the years. Why is this? Unfortunately traditional "Spelling" programs are being eliminated in many programs because it is not included in the Ontario curriculum. Students are also becoming more and more dependent on technology to fix or auto correct their mistakes for them, that they no longer can identify errors independently. At the end of the day, grammar and spelling are important to me, and I will continue to emphasize this in my classroom.
Earlier this month, a company reached out to me via email to ask if I would be interested in sharing the information below. The company is called Grammarly, which is a proofreading web application that finds and explains in-depth grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes. I agreed because I feel the connection between grammatical literacy and overall success is an important one to share. They asked that I share the info-graphic below and link the website to a grammar checker site to show my support. In doing so they would offer one of my blog readers the opportunity to receive a premium test account of your own. If you are interested in having a premium test account, please email me and let me know. I will select one winner at random. Good luck! |
